The silly season is a period from early summer until the first week of October of election years. Primary elections are over at this time, but formal debates have not started and the general election is many weeks away. Issues raised during this period are likely to be forgotten by the election, so candidates may rely on frivolous political posturing and hyperbole to get media attention and raise money.

It's worth noting that the venerable campaign button hearkens back to the founding of our republic. At the time of George Washington through the first half of the 19th century, these buttons were usually sewn onto clothing. Since then, it is customary to have a pin on the back of the button for attachment and removal. Not to put too fine a semiotic point on it, but it could be said that each of these little political advertisements all come attached to their very own prick.

Really nice work, John. Your style is unique. I especially like the reflections on the backs of the buttons.

In the end, regardless of who wins, we lose.

How do Americans cope with the seemingly endless campaigning that goes on, it seems to last forever! The French election was started and over in no time and the US is still not even close.
Like the image and the info.

I suppose because we couldn't stand the thought of the president hanging around for 7 years (Ireland)... (gad!). Or even 5 (France). Unless of course we want them for 8, but by that time, everyone's tired of him, even his original supporters. So it's a trade off.

And of course, we have our senate and House of representatives on a different schedule, plus local elections so it's always going on.

The key to understanding this is that here at home, we mostly ignore the whole thing until we absolutely can't.

Then it's over for a blissful week or two and back at ignoring the bastards again.

See, simple.

Thanks for your nice comment.

No problem it's a great looking, and now I understand because if I paid had to pay attention to those jokers all the time I'd crack up.
Very involved system the founding fathers came up with, but I suppose without tv and the internet there more of a need for a time wasting activity!;)
